The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is partnering with PAFDI to undertake a research project on the special role and contribution emerging economies are making to the global health, pandemics and the HIV response.

UNAIDS has been systematically assessing the resource availability for HIV from international and domestic sources of funding. While the focus of historical assessments of international HIV resources has been the development assistance committee (DAC) governments, the project seeks to assess and attract attention and visibility to the contributions of non‐traditional donors, that are emerging on the scene with an ever‐increasing impact. The countries under analysis include India, China, Brazil, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Indonesia and Thailand.

The mid-term findings were presented at a side event at the T20 Summit in India in July 2023 and the presentations can be viewed below.

The findings of the research and the results of the various country case studies will be presented in the UNAIDS flagship reports as well as in various United Nations, BRICS and G20 forums.
